Engineering Technology and Management for Agricultural Systems (ETMAS) prepares students to be problem solvers for systems involving the application, management, and marketing of engineering technologies. The ETMAS program is replacing the Technical Systems Management (TSM) program, effective starting the Fall 2021 term. Students who are currently enrolled as TSM majors may remain in the TSM program until they graduate. If you would like to switch to ETMAS, contact the academic advisor Travis Johnson

ETMAS and TSM graduates are well equipped to pursue careers in agricultural production, environmental systems, product testing, construction, sales, project management, and so much more. Our graduates find careers with leading firms in the agricultural, food, energy, construction, and manufacturing sectors. The average starting salary (2019-2020) for our TSM graduates is about $62,000.

Choose Your Concentration

Students working in processing plant.

Agricultural Production & Processing

Learn the technology, machinery, and management of the agricultural production system. Students will gain knowledge and skills in topics including:

  • agricultural industry from an operational and management perspective,
  • agricultural machinery, grain storage systems, and bioprocessing systems,
  • numerical and scientific processes to drive management decisions,
  • science and management of the complete food production system.

Degree requirements

Student measuring wood to cut.

Construction Management

Train in construction skills and concepts, as well as management practices and principles, including:

  • managing residential, agricultural, and industrial construction technologies;
  • operating and manufacturing systems that provide the desired environmental conditions for animals, people, crop storage, and greenhouses;
  • maintaining systems to handle and treat biowaste;
  • developing alternative housing and nutrient management practices.

Degree requirements

Student measuring crop barrel.

Digital & Precision Agriculture

Learn the application of technology in agriculture and the larger system of production agriculture, including machinery, agronomy, and business management. You will gain an understanding of:

  • the application of advanced technology used in agriculture with an emphasis on geospatial information systems and machinery technology,
  • the functional workings and management of agricultural machinery,
  • crop and soil science and their interactions with advanced technologies,
  • numerical and scientific processes to drive agricultural management decisions,
  • business operations and management with a focus on the agricultural industry.

Degree requirements

Students testing soil.

Energy & the Environment

Focus on renewable energy systems, environmental systems, or both to:

  • gain an understanding of the science behind renewable energy from sunlight, wind, geothermal, and biomass sources;
  • perform economic analyses of proposed systems;
  • manage energy systems to blend appropriate sources into reliable, cost-effective, and long-lasting systems;
  • develop, construct, and operate large-scale, grid-connected renewable energy projects.

You will have the opportunity to utilize GIS and other technologies to control the transport of agricultural and other non-point sources of pollution in the environment. You will also have the ability to implement systems for sustaining and improving water quality, maintaining ecosystems, managing stormwater, and developing optimal irrigation use and drainage systems.
